These lesson plans and guidance are informed by Revealing Reality’s ground-breaking research, Not Just Flirting, which explores young people’s experience of, and attitudes towards, sharing nude images.
Its findings – based on survey of over 5,000 young people – reveal not only the extent of the issue but the unequal way it effects some over others. The research gives unprecedented insight that supports a nuanced response to such a complex problem.
And, as part of this response the PSHE Association has launched these lesson plans for members to help schools address these issues via PSHE education lessons in school.
The lesson pack contains one lesson for key stage 3 students on feelings associated with sharing nudes, and another for key stage 4, addressing social attitudes and expectations related to nude image sharing. The accompanying guidance summarise report findings and gives advice on how to approach this topic safely and effectively.
Our year 5/6 lessons introduce the concept of safe and unsafe image sharing and include advice on how to seek help and report concerns should they receive or send inappropriate images. This lays the foundations for addressing the issue more specifically in later key stages
