Police officers can support teachers in delivering a range of topics in PSHE education lessons, such as drug education, road safety and raising awareness of online safety.

We've worked with the National Police Chief's Council (NPCC) and police forces around the country to enhance police officer contributions to the classroom and Maximise the benefits for police, teachers and pupils.

Our Police in the classroom handbook, co-authored with the NPCC as part of the child centred policing strategy, is an invaluable resource for guidance on ensuring effective practice and responding to challenges when working with the police in the classroom.

The handbook also includes a one-page checklist for teachers on key things to consider before a police visit.

Research and evidence

We have conducted and commissioned a range of research to give us an accurate picture of current practice regarding police staff working in schools.
