Video games, money and child financial harm

View the recording from our 2022 Talk Money Week twilight, ft. Dr David Zendle.

For Talk Money Week 2022 we were joined by Dr David Zendle, one of the world’s leading experts on the social impacts of video game monetisation. He presented his pioneering research on how loot boxes and microtransactions are changing the face of video games and increasingly exposing children to financial risk and harm.

With the majority of top games in the Google Play store featuring loot boxes or microtransactions, this is an issue which your students will almost certainly encounter. This twilight explores the issue, including links to online gambling and money muling, and promising approaches to addressing it in PSHE education.

This free event took place online, Thursday 10 November, and was introduced and facilitated by Jonathan Baggaley, Chief Executive of the PSHE Association.
