The Programme of Study for PSHE education (KS1-5) sets out essential learning to prepare children and young people for life.

Introducing the new 2026 Programme of Study for PSHE education

As the official body for PSHE education, the PSHE Association has been responsible for publishing the national Programme of Study for PSHE education since 2014.

This outlines the scope and content of the subject, and most schools in England now use it to inform how they structure PSHE education, including statutory relationships, sex and health education (RSHE) content.

The DfE statutory guidance for RSHE sets out content for each phase (primary and secondary) but does not break this down by key stage.

The Programme of Study for PSHE education supports schools by providing suggested learning opportunities for each key stage covering all the statutory RSHE content (which schools must cover) as well as content for Economic Wellbeing and Careers Education (which all schools are expected to cover as part of broader PSHE education).

And with schools needing to follow the new RSHE guidance from September, now is an ideal time to explore these new materials.

The Programme of Study covers key stages 1 through to 5 and is freely available to all to download.

To support curriculum planning, PSHE Association members have access to our PSHE education Curriculum Models — which provide medium- and long-term plans for all year groups, supported by 500+ lessons
