Early Career Teachers (ECTs) often have to deliver PSHE education in their first teaching post and most teachers will be required to teach the subject at some point in their careers. So it’s vital that all teachers understand the basics.
Our free on-demand FutureLearn course and Professional Development Framework will both help you on your way to becoming a safe and effective PSHE teacher.
This on-demand training — available 3 times a year but open for registration at any time — will provide the ideal foundation for teaching new statutory RSE, Relationships Education and Health Education content safely and effectively.

Completion time: Approx. 2 hours of study each week for 3 weeks.
Designed to be used in partnership with your university tutor or school-based mentor, our Framework will help you develop the basic understanding and skills you'll need to teach PSHE effectively.
We will award all successful participants the Certificate of Professional Development in PSHE Education for Trainees and Newly Qualified Teachers via your ITE provider or school mentor.

Achieving this certificate helps to demonstrate your understanding and experience of safe practice in PSHE education. It will also contribute to your professional practice and enrich application for future roles.
You’ll need to evidence your experience and understanding against criteria set out in the documents below. Your tutor or school-based mentor can work through the process with you and assess how well you meet these criteria.
