Key topics within PSHE education can help learners to: develop a secure understanding of positive relationship behaviours; recognise the impact of bullying and discrimination and how to challenge it; and respect the differences and similarities between people.
From the BBC Access All podcast series, we learn that of the thousands of disability hate crimes reported to the police last year, just 1% resulted in criminal charges two charities have revealed (Leonard Cheshire and United Response). Ali Gunn, policy lead for United Response, which was involved in the research, says:
"A lot of the time victims don't even know they've been a victim of a disability hate crime" and, as a result, the number of reported incidents could be the "tip of the iceberg".
Where in our PSHE provision are we helping learners to manage these situations if they encounter them?
