We’re thrilled to announce our second keynote speaker at this year’s Spring Conference 2025, taking place online on 6th March, 9:30 - 13:00 GMT. [Book your place]

Joining Dr. Chris van Tulleken as part of our inspiring line-up of speakers is Jeffrey Boakye — ex-teacher turned writer, speaker, broadcaster, and educator, with compelling insights on identity, masculinity, education, popular culture and more.

About Jeffrey Boakye

Jeffrey spent 15 years as an English teacher in London and Yorkshire, training educators on issues surrounding identity and education. He is also Senior Teaching Fellow at the University of Manchester’s Institute for Education, and hosts BBC Radio 4’s Add to Playlist

Jeffrey is the author of eight published books including I heard what you said and What is Masculinity? Why Does it Matter? And Other Big Questions.

Jeffrey is also a primary school governor and is proud to be a patron of the National Association for Teaching of English (NATE) and an ambassador of the PTI.

Navigating identity through education: Towards equity and social justice

Jeffrey's keynote will explore your key role in helping children and young people navigate identities in shifting contexts, looking carefully at the pressures arising from various ideologies, systems and social constructs. There will be a particular focus on masculinity, drawing upon Jeffrey’s writing on the issue, and ensuring a positive presentation of masculinity to counteract some of the dangerous online narratives that can lead to division and misogyny.

Jeffrey will invite attendees to consider how society works differently for different intersections of identity, looking towards wider aims of inclusion and social justice whilst also examining the ideologies that shape society across various institutions and sectors. The session will offer perspectives on building personal insights and shaping an argument for equity, considering how we can each leverage our personal narratives and lived experiences for the benefit of wider society and the communities we are part of.

The world of 2025 and beyond may seem particularly daunting, but this keynote will highlight the crucial difference you and your students can make in the face of so many complex challenges.
